1926 Paramount Aristocrat

Written by Paul Conlon. Posted in For Sale

1926 Paramount Aristocrat Tenor banjo from the Rettburg & Lange Company, New York. Serial number on persch pole and rim is #6543 which dates it to 1926.

The neck is made from 5 piece walnut with centre maple and aqua blue dyed pear wood either side. The top laminates are matching maple and dyed pear wood with an ebony fretboard. The head stock is decorated in beautiful mother of pearl inlay floral design with ornate shaped mother of pearl position markers along the fretboard. The neck is straight and action is low, it has the broader frets which is preferred by my trad players. The tuners have been replaced with quality brand new gold plated Grover geared tuners.

The rim is constructed from multiply maple covered in walnut veneer which houses the metal supports holding the tone ring in place. The outer shirt is plated in gold as is the flange with cut out circles. There are 28 shoes, bracket hooks and nuts, Paramount swivel tailpiece, flat bar armrest, fitted with a newly installed Remo white head for a beautifully balanced tone. The scale length of the neck is 23″. The resonator is made from laminated maple and walnut veneers with circular maple rings inlaid in the back with centred strip matching the neck. Fitted with a hand made Marinie Toman solid ebony bridge with pearl inset and new bronze phosphor strings. A very nice banjo to play, great looking and with a beautiful tone…

All metal parts throughout are in good clean condition with some wear through in places.

Comes with original Paramount vintage solid case with crushed red velvet lining/accessories pockets and a new leather replacement handle.

Bacon & Day Special

Written by Paul Conlon. Posted in For Sale

Bacon & Day Special Tenor banjo Style No 1 built in Groton, Connecticut around 1930 serial #. The B&D Special series was the next model down from the Silver Bell series. These banjos are very comfortable to play, and perfectly suited for playing Irish Trad. Beautiful deep rich tone with punchy bass on the G and D strings, A and E strings are also pure in tonal sound. The action is low and the neck is straight all of the way up the fretboard. This banjo has been very well cared for and I would consider in excellent condition. If you own another vintage banjo and have never played a B&D you should definitely check them out. They are robust and you can play them hard and they will hold their tune and tone. Not too many around these days especially in this condition.

Comes with brand new hardshell case with black fur lining and gold latches/hinges
