Photos coming soon

This is one of the 1920’s professional Epiphone Recording range just under the Bandmaster B model. The 5 piece neck is made from rich walnut sandwiched with 2 outer maple strips and ebony centre with the headstock and fretboard made from mother of pearl pyralin, hand engraved, artistically tinted and set upon a foundation of 5 multicoloured veneers. The side of the fingerboard is bound with white pyralin and inset with position dots. The six ply resonator is faced with specially designed pyralin in a shell effect contrasted and enhanced by coloured checkered wood marquetry top edge. The metal parts have recently been professionally re-plated and it looks outstanding. The tuners are Gotoh 4: 1 ratio geared, The rear of the headstock has the famous Epiphone decal sticker in place. The resonator is also in excellent condition, with the rear and sides equally covered in green shell effect pyralin.

The heavy flange is the later ‘X’ style which slips over the 3/4″ thick multiply rim. The tone ring in the Alhambra is the same type fitted to all of the recording models. Fitted with the engraved Grover Deluxe tailpiece with spring cover and tension adjuster screw. Fitted with a new 10 – 15/16″ Remo smooth white head, new strings and a new handmade walnut / cocobola tipped bridge. The banjo is in excellent condition and sounds amazing, it is loud and has great sustain and comes with the original vintage case with blue velvet interior.

Paramount Style B Tenor Banjo

Written by Paul Conlon. Posted in For Sale

Fully restored 19 fret tenor banjo from the famous Rettburg & Lange Banjo Company in New York. I always aim to source the paramount banjos in as best original conditon as possible and as seen from the photos this one has been kept in first class condition throughout its lifetime. The Style B has a neck and resonator made from walnut and a maple rim with walnut veneer, which is standard with all models. The 5 piece neck is nicely profiled made from walnut with centred maple/walnut laminates for strength and stability and has an ebony heel cap. The head stock is nicely finished with mother of pearl bearing the branded name Paramount Style B. The neck is perfectly straight and action is set low and plays throughout every fret without buzzes, still has original frets in good condition. The rosewood fretboard has fancy mother of pearl inlay markers and the side is bonded with checkered wood marquetry. The resonator has a beautiful walnut grain with side strips similar match to the neck marquetry and circular rings to the rear.

Newly installed 1102 Remo renaissance head, although a clear head will also look nice as the nickel plating through is in great original condition. Most importantly the sound from this walnut made model B is amazing as you would expect from the paramount brand. I have stripped this instrument down and hand polished every part (as I do with all my banjos) and its looks as it just left the factory. Everything is original from the hooks and nuts, hot dog armrest, swivel tail piece, archtop tone ring. The tuners have been upgraded to Schaller geared tuners. Comes with a new hardshell case but I can supply a vintage one if preferred. The serial number is ? which makes it a ? build.
