1930 Paramount Aristocrat Tenor Banjo

It’s very reassuring to know that when you hold a Paramount tenor banjo in your hands, 90 years on and it is still in the same new like condition as it was when it left the shop back in the mid 20’s. Quality workmanship throughout this banjo, using the best tone woods and solid pure metals. These models were quadruple gold plated and still retains its original plating.

Banjo Details:

The neck is made from 5 piece walnut with centre maple and aqua blue dyed pear wood either side. The top laminates are matching maple and dyed pear wood with an ebony fretboard. The head stock is decorated in beautiful mother of pearl inlay floral design with ornate shaped MOP position markers along the fret board. The neck is straight and action is low, it has the original frets with little wear to them. The original page geared tuners are the solid unbreakable type and in perfect working order.

The rim is constructed from multiply maple covered in walnut veneer which houses the metal supports holding the tone ring in place. The outer shirt is plated in gold as is the flange with cut out circles. There are 28 shoes, bracket hooks and nuts, Paramount swivel tailpiece, flat bar armrest, fitted with a Remo clear head for a bright clear tone. The scale length of the neck is 23″. The resonator is made from laminated maple and walnut veneers with circular maple rings inlaid in the back with centred strip matching the neck. Set up with a new handmade maple/cocobola rosewood tip bridge and new nickel strings. A very nice banjo to play, great looking and with a beautiful tone…

Epiphone Recording Alhambra Tenor Banjo

This is one of the 1920’s professional Epiphone Recording range just under the Bandmaster B model. The 5 piece neck is made from rich walnut sandwiched with 2 outer maple strips and ebony centre with the headstock and fretboard made from mother of pearl pyralin, hand engraved, artistically tinted and set upon a foundation of 5 multicoloured veneers. The side of the fingerboard is bound with white pyralin and inset with position dots. The six ply resonator is faced with specially designed pyralin in a shell effect contrasted and enhanced by coloured checkered wood marquetry top edge. The metal parts are quadruple silver plated in a smooth satin finish that accentuates the beauty of the fingerboard and head plate. The tuners are Grover 4: 1 ratio geared and in perfect working order. The rear of the headstock has the original Epiphone decal sticker in place.

The heavy flange is the later ‘X’ style which slips over the 3/4″ thick multiply rim. The tone ring in the Alhambra is the same type fitted to all of the recording models. Fitted with the engraved Grover Deluxe tailpiece with spring cover and tension adjuster screw and the Epiphone patented armrest which attaches to the tension hoop with 2 x machine screws. Recently fitted with a new 10 – 15/16″ Remo renaissance head, new strings and a new handmade cocobola tipped bridge. The banjo is in excellent condition and sounds amazing and comes with the original vintage case with inner amber velvet zipped dust cover.
