Paramount Style A Tenor Banjo

About the banjo

1928 Paramount Style A 19 fret tenor banjo from the famous Rettburg & Lange factory New York.  This particular Style A is in excellent condition with original gloss lacquer finish both on neck and resonator as shown in the photographs. The nickel plating throughout is also in excellent shape for a banjo of 90 years old, the tonering shows a little oxidization but thats all. The ‘Style A model’ were made from quality rock maple tone wood, and with ageing the patina of the lacquer turns to beautiful amber tones. The banjo has a perfectly straight neck and I have set the action low and good shape frets. Fitted with 12, 17, 28, 38, nickel strings and setup for trad playing. I have also fitted a new Remo renaissance 11 – 2/16″ head with produces great crisp sustaining tones from the arch top tone ring. All of the hooks and nuts are all original Paramount. Comes with black leatherette hard shell vintage case finished with inner purple velvet and single box pocket. The banjo has been very well cared for throughout its lifetime as seen from the photos, if you require any more info please let me know.

About the Banjo

Possibly one of the finest sounding banjos ever made and as rare as hens teeth to own. This has been my own personal banjo for over 15 years and I am now offering it for sale. It was built in 1928 and has the serial number ‘6838’. I have enjoyed playing this one over any other banjo I have owned, so why am I selling it? Well I now own 2 so one has to go!

The banjo comes with a quality new deluxe case but if preferred I have the original vintage case which is in good condition. The banjo has of course been stripped down and every part hand polished and set up with a new clear Remo head. The tone from this banjo is amazing, it has an incredible power and volume, the best instrument for traditional Irish Music.
