The Lads of Laois

A mighty reel in the key of E minor which usually follows ‘The Maid I Ne’er Forgot’. There are variations out there in both first and second parts of the tune which suit fiddle, flute, pipes etc. We will explore the variations and see what we come up with for the tenor banjo, enjoy the tune…

Johnny McIljohn’s Reel

This is a pretty simple tune to learn to get the term started, but fun to play with others. It sounds like a Shetland tune, and has been recorded by Cathal McConnell from the Scottish band ‘Boys of the Lough’ but Johnny McIljohn was a Northern Irish musician. There are a couple of tunes under the same name so enjoy learning the tune.
Lunasa recently recorded a great version of the tune in their new album “Redwood.”
